Pokok Duit.... Pohon Pitis

Another light article that will not required your brain cell to work extra hard. Its might create a smile in your face though. Inspired by my monthly trip to bank to pay my credit card that also mean my monthly expenses like all the installments payment, Astro bill, life insurance, touch n go and monthly petrol expenses, since everything I pay using my credit card.

Sultan Muhammad IV of the state of Kelantan in 1903 send ‘money tree’ to King of Siam as a ‘ufti’, since Kelantan at that time still a tributary state of Siam. That particular money tree called ‘Pohon Pitis”. Pohon as a pokok or tree and Pitis is a local dialect for money, pronounce as Pitih. Actually until 1920, Kelantanese use Pitih as their official currency.

The tree as shown below made of tin metal bearing 13 coins produce using China moldings technology introduced to Sultan of Kelantan by Chinese traders. On one side of the coin was inscribed “THURIBA FI ZUL-HIJJAH SANAT 1321” means the month of Zul–hijjah 1903 and on the reverse crafted by wording “BELANJAAN KERAJAAN KELANTAN” to indicate it is official Kelantan currency.

Pohon Pitis

Selain dari Kelantan, aku percaya beberapa negeri di Tanah Melayu like Kedah, Terengganu even Melaka at one time also have to sent some sort of ufti or annual tax to Siam. But only Kelantan hantar Pohon Pitis, or money tree since everyone else send Bunga Emas.

Bunga Emas

If anybody wonder where the hell I dig the info, nope I not conduct a research and spend hours of my precious time to read history books. I just very good in history subject. So, I memorize all those information. Semua tu ada dalam buka Sejarah masa sekolah menengah. Ok, honestly I found it from Bank Simpanan Nasional’s website, since BSN use Pohon Pitis as their corporate logo. Very wise decision, since Pohon Pitis symbolize BSN vision to grow our money like a tree.

Beside BSN, a lot others businesses also represent their business activity as money tree. Especially skim cepat kaya, multi level marketing or currently overrated online money generated programs.

Here the interesting part. I personally found the real money tree. Pokok hidup yang boleh mengeluarkan wang. No, I not try to promote any scheme or try to sell any product. Seriously, I found a tree that in fact can act similar to an ATM machine. It’s not a robotic tree, or eco-friendly decoration that built machine yang dihiasi dengan kayu atau daun. This is truly life breathing natural tree. Ok lah, enough with the explanation, luckily I manage to snap a picture of that tree kalau tak surely you guys say I bluffing.

Read the signage properly, we can withdraw money, check account balance and maybe few other applications. I not make them up, the bank said so. Since ATM machine beside that 'tree' kosong, so aku gunakan that normal ATM machine la instead of try the new ‘money tree’ provided by the bank.

Ok, I know….. lame joke. But surely I managed to make you smile, right?

Agreed dengan lankapo. BSN @ Bank Slow National. Tak ikut peredaran zaman langsung. Aku nak buat cek deposit utk kakak aku (kat kampung itu je bank yang ada) dan officer tu kata it will take about 10 working days for cheque clearance. Itu dialog tahun 2008. Amboi, kita boleh hantar orang ke ISS less than 30 minutes tapi cek clearance kat bumi 2 minggu. Terus aku cancel. Weekend balik kampung bagi duit by hand, lagi tak sakit hati...
